Thanks to everyone who took the time to attend the hearing yesterday! The Mobility Plan was approved to move forward after much discussion and after 57 people gave their public comment. The discussion revolved around advancing equity and historically disinvested communities in the implementation of the Plan and making amendments to some of the network concept maps included in Chapter 6 of the Plan. Overall, Councilmembers emphasized and supported the balanced and holistic approach that the Mobility Plan 2035 takes on long range transportation planning for the City. General Manager of LADOT, Seleta Reynolds, spoke on how the Mobility Plan will help the City better position itself to go after federal and state transportation funding sources.

The Plan will go to the full City Council on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at City Hall, room 340. The meeting will start at 10am and the Mobility Plan will be heard depending on agenda order. Download the agenda when it’s released here.

Mobility Plan Unanimously Approved by Planning Commission, Next Up, City Council Subcommittee Meetings

Thank you to everyone who was able to come out to the City Planning Commission Meeting on May 28. We appreciated all of the public comments provided at the meeting, as well as the comments received throughout this process. We also apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused when the Plan was taken out of order.

We are happy to announce that the Mobility 2035 Plan passed unanimously, with all 6 present members voting in favor. Next the Plan heads to the City Council’s Planning and Land Use Committee (PLUM) and Transportation Committee Meeting  in late-June. Stay tuned for updates on dates and times.

We’ve found in the process of writing this Plan that people have a lot of great questions about the Mobility Plan. To respond to some of these questions we’ve updated the FAQ section on this website. We included questions that came up many times through the comment process such as: what is the scope of this plan, what are the networks and how will they be implemented, and…

What happens next?

The Plan is meant to be a citywide guide, but implementation at the community level will focus on each neighborhood’s unique challenges and needs. While the Plan identifies a variety of policies and strategies it doesn’t prescribe specific solutions for select corridors and/or intersections. Instead, we’re imagining a process that will include conversations with community members and elected officials, and the examination of data to identify and learn more about specific community concerns. From there, a comprehensive package of improvements can be identified. Depending upon the unique characteristics of the area, the package could include the identification of improved off-street parking options, street calming improvements, wayfinding, improved cross-walks and an area shuttle bus.  This community centric approach will be coupled with other broader initiatives that will include supporting Metro on their expanding transit network, collaborating with regional partners to increase transportation funding, developing a network of “mobility hubs” meant to facilitate and support multi-modal access to and from major transportation stops, finding more opportunities to introduce “green street” solutions to treat and infiltrate stormwater and expanding the role of the street as a public space.
